New $1,000,000 Grant from the Lilly Endowment, Inc. will Enhance Catholic Leadership Institute’s Parish Ministry

Catholic Leadership Institute has received a $1,000,000 grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to help support our innovative parish ministry and take the Next Generation Parish learnings to a new level of impact.

The program is funded through Lilly Endowment’s Thriving Congregations Initiative. The aim of the national initiative is to strengthen Christian congregations so they can help people deepen their relationships with God, build strong relationships with each other and contribute to the flourishing of local communities and the world.

Catholic Leadership Institute was able to enhance and reach more parishes through the Next Generation Parish endeavor with the support of a $1,000,000 implementation grant from the Lilly Endowment in 2020.

Our goal – catalyzed by this generous grant – is to launch parishes for an Apostolic Age by:

  • Broadening our reach to support more parishes of diverse demographics across the country.
  • Elevating our formation of leaders – both lay and clergy – to prepare them for this Apostolic Age.
  • Creating more resources to support Catholic leaders as they go out and make disciples.
  • Continuously elevating and enhancing our parish ministry to reach the highest levels of excellence for our deserving and worthy Church.

Catholic Leadership Institute CEO Dan Cellucci shares:

“Next Generation Parish has taught us more about parish life and what it takes to foster vibrancy than any other endeavor in Catholic Leadership Institute’s 33-year history. This new philanthropic gift from Lilly Endowment will take those learnings and scale them in terms of reach, excellence, and Christian practice. With great gratitude, humility, and servant spirit, we look forward to instilling and inspiring greater Apostolic purpose within our parish ministry."

"Jesus asked us to go out, two-by-two. Through this grant, we aspire to walk with Apostolic leaders through this journey and to prepare them to go out and walk two-by-two with another."

Catholic Leadership Institute is one of 247 organizations that has received funding through Lilly Endowment’s Thriving Congregations Initiative. Reflecting a wide variety of Christian traditions, the organizations represent mainline and evangelical Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox, Anabaptist and Pentecostal faith communities.

About Lilly Endowment, Inc.

Lilly Endowment Inc. is an Indianapolis-based private philanthropic foundation created in 1937 by J.K. Lilly Sr. and sons Eli and J.K. Jr. through gifts of stock in their pharmaceutical business, Eli Lilly & Company. Although the gifts of stock remain a financial bedrock of the Endowment, it is a separate entity from the company, with a distinct governing board, staff and location. In keeping with the founders’ wishes, the Endowment exists to support the causes of religion, education and community development. The Endowment funds significant programs throughout the United States, especially in the field of religion. A principal aim of the Endowment’s religion grantmaking is to deepen and enrich the lives of Christians in the United States, primarily by seeking out and supporting efforts that enhance the vitality of congregations and strengthen the pastoral and lay leadership of Christian communities. The Endowment also seeks to improve public understanding of diverse religious traditions by supporting fair and accurate portrayals of the role religion plays in the United States and across the globe.
