Dear Friends,
This Lenten season, I have been reflecting on this verse and the idea of sacrifice. The greatest embodiment of this verse is seen when Jesus Christ died for us on the cross. He truly laid down his life for us.
In Catholic Leadership Institute’s ministry, I see leaders laying down their lives for our faith every day:
Our bishops give their lives to shepherding their flocks and dioceses. Our priests gave their lives to their priestly vocation and to bring us the Eucharist. Our lay leaders sacrifice time, talent, and treasure to give life to their parishes.
I have great admiration for these leaders. In fact, they have inspired me to pray about this question: How can I lay down part of my life for our Church this Lenten season?
Jesus gave up His human life for us. What courage and trust this took in His Father… and in us. He trusted that we would take care of His Church through that ultimate sacrifice. We can respond to Jesus’ trust that we will build His Church through creating a legacy through our giving.
